We’re Halfway Through the Lions Baseball Season, Where Do They Stand Now? What Are They Doing To Finish Off Strong?

“Our double celebration actually is yoga poses because a group of us goes to hot yoga whenever we have an off day,” said graduate student infielder Benny Casillas, when reflecting on what he does to keep his mind and body sharp and ready during the season. 
 
The Lions now hold a 12-17 record 29 games into the season, but they feel like their record does not show the talent and potential that they truly have. The Lions are fresh off of a West Coast Conference regular season title that they earned at the end of the 2023 season. 
 
Although the Lions have not had a perfect season thus far, they still have a strong belief in the tools in their shed. 
 
Going into this season the Lions went through numerous changes in terms of the players on their roster, as well as coaching staff. The Lions current head coach Donegal Fergus was named head coach ahead of this season, on June 24, 2023. Fergus has impressive high-level experience such as runs at UCSB and the MLB’s Minnesota Twins, that made him an exciting addition to the bluff. The whole coaching staff being brand new has brought in experience from all over the country. As well as a new coach, the Lions roster gained a few new players from the transfer portal such as Jeff HeinrichBrendan BoboDaalen AdderleyChristian Dicochea, along with a few others.
